
James was a citizen of Raleigh since 1929 and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Raleigh.
He attended Broughton High School in Raleigh and was a graduate of Wake Forest College where he obtained his Bachelors in Math and History. James was an insurance underwriter for Northwestern and for Thomas B. Reynolds and Sons. He enjoyed yard work, sports and was an avid reader.
James was predeceased by his sister Olive Miller.
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years Norma Groce Hamrick of Raleigh, his children: Carolyn Gillespie and husband Charles of Raleigh, Jim Hamrick and his wife Cindy of Knoxville, TN and Sarah Hamrick of College Park, MD, his granddaughter Jenny Hamrick of Nashville, TN and his sister Martha Howerton of Durham.
A time of Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm Friday November 20, 2015 at The First Baptist Church 99 N Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27603 where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Fuller B. Hamrick Scholarship c/o Meredith College, Raleigh.
