James "Jim" F. Lovett

James Frederick “Jim” Lovett passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at his home in Raleigh. Jim was born in Kingstree, SC on August 19, 1931, the youngest of 7 children. Jim graduated from Furman University where he played baseball. He moved to Raleigh, NC in 1955 where he worked in the apparel industry for most of his career.

He is survived by sons, James F. “Rik” Lovett, Jr. and wife Jeanelle and Charles Kent Lovett and wife Sarah; as well as seven grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Maurer Lovett and all of his siblings.

A lover of sports, Jim played many years of tennis along with racquetball and handball at the Raleigh YMCA. Jim was involved in many church activities and Bible Study groups. He was a true southern gentleman with a warm personality and quick wit. To meet and speak with Jim for even a few minutes was to find him charming, kind and exceptionally likable. He loved his family and wide range of friends from every walk of life.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate His Life will be held on Wednesday, March 30 at 2pm at Christ Baptist Church (400 Newton Rd, Raleigh, NC). In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ Baptist Church or the Salvation Army of Raleigh.
