She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Jane was the daughter of James Phydell “Phyd” Singleton and Geneva Smith Singleton and had seven siblings.
Throughout her life, she was known for her nurturing and caring personality, her beautiful smile, her love of family, and her dedication to shopping. She knew many Flea Market vendors by name! She was a beloved wife to Dean for 62 years, and until her dementia set in, was more than capable of keeping him in check. She was an amazing mother to Deanna and Rick.
Jane devoted 22 years of her life to teaching seventh-grade social studies, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students. She was a beloved teacher who shared not only her knowledge but also her time, care, and encouragement with the young people entrusted to her. Jane loved the “drama” of seventh grade, and she was uniquely equipped to both encourage students that age and to rein them in when needed.
Outside the classroom, Jane found joy in gardening and, above all, in her family. She especially treasured her role as a grandmother, and her grandchildren brought her great happiness.
Jane's Christian faith was a central part of her life and sustained her through the long years of her illness. She was a faithful example of Christian love, trust, and perseverance; Isaiah 40:31 was of great comfort. Even as dementia changed her life, her faith remained an important part of her story. Her life was a testimony to the strength found in trusting God through life's most difficult seasons, and Dean’s steady, loyal care for her was a shining example for her children and grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dean; her daughter, Deanna (Craig); her daughter-in-law, Ryan, her grandchildren, Sam, Carter, Dorsey, and Press; and her sisters Pat, Mary (Jerry), Cary (Royce), and Della.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rick, her brothers Raymond and Billy, brothers-in-law Clark, Dave, Jerry, and her best friend and sister Dot. They are reunited now, praise God.
Her family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support of those who walked alongside Jane and her loved ones throughout her illness. We particularly want to thank Jen, her Transitions Nurse, Tera, her long-time caregiver, and Halley, her more recent caregiver. These ladies are angels on Earth, and we praise God for the care and love they showed Jane/Mom.
