Janet Smith Casey

She was proceeded in death by her parents Russell and Anna Smith, daughter Jill Anne Casey, husband Ed Casey, and brothers Russell and Jack Smith.

Janet is survived by her son Todd and his wife April, grandson Trevor and his partner Jessica, granddaughter Josie and husband Peter, and great granddaughter Charlotte.

Janet grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and one of her favorite areas was the Brandywine Village located near the Brandywine River, that was depicted in a painting by Andrew Wyeth. She attended Pierre S. Dupont Highschool, where she was active in student government, and graduated from Goldey Beacon College and later worked for Hercules in their corporate office in Wilmington, Delaware.

Janet and her loving husband Ed, were married for sixty years and had two children, Todd and Jill. Ed was employed by Hercules as a Mechanical Engineer and was transferred to the Wilmington, NC Hercules facility in 1967. Janet and Ed remained in Wilmington, NC where they raised their children and became permanent Wilmington NC fixtures.

Janet left the workforce to raise her children and became an active community member. Janet was a long time member of Windermere Presbyterian Church, member of the PTA, volunteer at New Hanover Hospital, Docent at the Bellamy Mansion, New Hanover High Senior Project Review Board, New Hanover County Election Day Official, Bridge Club and numerous other volunteer organizations.

Janet's warm smile and gift for conversation meant she never met a stranger, this provided the gift of many friends from various walks of life.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks for their kindness, as well as the staff at Rex Hospital and Raleigh Medical for their compassion and excellent care.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Friday August 28th at Windermere Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Windermere Presbyterian Church or St Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
