Jan was born on December 7th, 1933 in Wake Forest, North Carolina to James and Edna Lynam. She is predeceased by the love of her life, Robert E. Ferrone, whom she married on July 11th, 1954 and spent 57 wonderful years before his passing in 2011. Jan is also predeceased by her sister, Iris Sheets; brother, Charles Lynam and sister-in-law, Faye Lynam.
She is survived by her son, James Ferrone and his wife Gwen; her daughter, Kristal Ferrone; four grandchildren Jennifer, John, Jamie and Kasey; and five great-grandchildren, as well as her brother-in-law, David Sheets.
Jan graduated from Wake Forest High School, where she was voted “Most Popular” in her class. She then attended Women’s College in Greensboro, NC (UNCG).
Jan lived many summers in Carolina Beach where she loved to shag to her favorite beach tunes. She was a long-time supporter of Cardinal Gibbons athletics as well as the NCSU Women’s Basketball program. She enjoyed teaching line dancing at the Longbranch in Raleigh, playing the penny slot machines in Cherokee, and bringing joy to hundreds of children by dressing as Mrs. Clause at the GE annual Christmas party for many years. Jan also loved her church, Our Lady of Lourdes, where she was a member for over 60 years.
She was most known for being a mother figure to so many and for always placing others in front of herself. We know that she is dancing in heaven.
Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at Sunrise Senior Living for their love and support of Jan over these past few years---especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Special Olympics of NC (www.sonc.net).
