Jerry Lee Swinson

Mr. Jerry Lee Swinson, 86, of Raleigh passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, surrounded by his family. Our family is at peace knowing he is now completely healed and with Jesus. Jerry Lee was born in Duplin County on Feb. 6, 1939, to the late Liston Lee Swinson and Hellen Lee Parker Swinson. He graduated as valedictorian from North Duplin High School, attended UNC-Ch briefly and graduated from King's Business College with an accounting degree.

On July 22, 1961, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean King, and they raised their two children, Michelle and Todd, in Raleigh.

Jerry worked for two CPA firms before becoming controller for Mims Distributing Company where he worked for over 30 years. His integrity, loyalty and incredible work ethic made him an invaluable asset. He loved UNC basketball and was an outstanding baseball and softball player. He always played 2nd base and was fast as lightning.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, GanDa and great GanDa. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean; children, Michelle Swinson Beverly (Robby) and Todd Swinson (Audra); grandchildren, Ryan Beverly (Jennifer), Morgan Beverly Newton (Neill), Claire Swinson Hoy (Jimmy), Alec Swinson (Shannon), Christian Swinson (Hannah), Julian Swinson and Lauren Swinson; great grandchildren, Conley and Mary Frances Newton, Madi Grace and Lainey Beverly and Theo and Ollie Hoy.

The family will receive friends on August 25, 2025, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. followed by funeral services and graveside services. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations made to the Alzheimer's Association.
