Joan Castleton Woodsmall

Joan was born on January 18, 1954 to the late Ralph and Elvira Castleton.

Joann had a lot of education, including a B.A. from University of California at Riverside, a Master of Arts from University of California at Los Angles at and a JD law degree from California Western School of Law. She passed the bar in California, Texas and North Carolina. She was eligible to practice in front of the Supreme Court. She loved to learn and had a great memory.

Among her other jobs, she was a lawyer for the Texas Employment Commission and a Concierge Key for American Airlines.

Joan is survived by her husband, David, of 37 years.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Joan and her husband loved adventure – traveling to five African Countries for a month, Australia, Alaska and many Islands. They enjoyed Bridge, Dancing, Dog Sledding in Alaska, Hot Air Ballooning, Flying, Sailing, Scuba, Snorkeling and Wild Animal Photography.

A graveside service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park & Mitchell Funeral Home, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612, US, on May 30, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
