Raleigh, NC Joanne Gibson – Joanne Honeycutt Gibson of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2025, at Transitions Lifecare after her battle with colon cancer. Over the last 5 years, she managed her treatments and surgeries with a fierceness and grace that even her doctors could not comprehend.
After growing up in Clinton NC, earning her x-ray technology degree from The Bowman Gray School of Medical School in 1971 of Wake Forest University, she met the love of her life Daniel Allen Gibson. Following their two years of marriage in 1973, Joanne gave birth to her only daughter, Heather. After the passing of Danny in 1975, Joanne went into business with her best friend, Pat, opening a women’s boutique “For Her Only” in Fayetteville. A few years later Joanne earned a Bachelor of Science from Methodist College in Business Administration and an Associate of Applied Science in Business Computer Programming from Fayetteville Tech Community College. She utilized her degrees working in various medical institutions in Fayetteville, Cary, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh.
Quality of life was important to Joanne. Over her years of retirement, Joanne has spent her time between Raleigh and her happy place in Surf City. She loved watching her granddaughters and dog play on the beach and enjoying a sunset cocktail.
Joanne’s greatest joy was being with her daughter and watching her grow into a strong, caring, independent woman. She was blessed to watch her fall in love, marry her best friend, and become a mom. Joanne held fast on June 18, determined to see her daughter through her business grand opening. It was not until Heather and her husband were on their way home at the end of a successful first day that she crossed over the rainbow.
She is survived by her daughter Heather Gibson Harmon and her beloved son-in-law Clay; her granddaughters Anne Gibson Harmon and Arrington Elizabeth Harmon; her loyal dog Haven; her two sisters Joyce Carlton (Bruce) and Jewell Honeycutt, nieces and nephew.
Preceded in death by her husband Daniel Allen Gibson; parents, Willard (Thump) and Elma Joyce Honeycutt.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will take place at the Merrimon-Wynne House on Sunday, July 13, 2025 with floating hours from 1:00 - 4:00 PM.
