We have received so many thoughts, prayers and notes over the past few days and weeks. We are so very appreciative and proud to carry on the legacy he and mom have created. This note, written by friend, and former Marine, Corporal Julian Terry captures the man we are so very proud to call husband and dad.
Dear Janet and Family, I of course am profoundly saddened at the passing of your beloved Jack. You must now bear the unbearable. He was a great man. Raised wonderful adoring children. Has a magnificent loving wife. Served his country. Was a true friend, a dedicated American worker. Was a follower of his faith. That’s a great man. I hope your memories, strength, love for each other, and faith will sustain all of you. As it says in the Marine Corps Hymn, “If you look on heaven’s scenes you’ll find the streets are guarded by United States Marines." I hope he passed with no regrets. I loved Jackie Boy. “Semper Fidelis“ my friend. Today I weep with all of you. ~JT

A wonderful father to a wonderful family, the Batten family came to know Jack as we were lucky enough to be the next door neighbors of Dave and Debbie in Chesapeake, Va. for several years. What a personable, loving and model father. His love for his family was evident and he would drive up often to visit so we were lucky to get to know "Mr. D" fairly quickly. Watching golf, playing golf, dining together, or whatever the occasion, Mr. D was always the big personality in the room yet always made us feel as we were part of the family. I miss my friends, Dave, Debbie, Michael and Brandon and I hurt for them. I miss my friend, Mr. D. too. Rest in Peace good sir, you ran a wonderful race. Terry Batten
