

John Atlas Johnson, 82, passed away on March 10, 2021 at Wake Medical Center due to complications of Covid 19. Born on July 13, 1938 in O’Neil’s Township – Johnston County, NC; he was the only child of the late Leonard Woodrow Johnson and Clyde Bailey Johnson and husband of the late Phyllis Anne Beasley Johnson.
As an only child; John spent his early years farming with his parents in Middlesex at his homeplace. He moved to Raleigh after meeting and marrying Phyllis. He was in the service station business for many years.
After retirement he drove for Capital Ford delivering vehicles to new owners and various dealerships. His greatest love was his family. He enjoyed racing and owned racecars that were raced at Wake County Speedway, and having coffee and conversations with many friends over the years at local diners. He delighted in joking around with his grandchildren and always enjoyed the companionship of his pet dog.
He is survived by his son: Jackie Neal Johnson and wife Kathi, of Raleigh ; daughters: Patricia Johnson and Pam Earp and husband Johnny, of Johnston County; grandchildren: Emily Creech (Daniel), Brittni Somers (Garren), Rebecka Johnson, Sydney Fowler, Allison Earp, Jordan Earp, Jacob Earp; great- grandchildren: Gavin Crocker (Emily), and Audrey Bjorling (Rebecka), other family and friends.
** Due to the weather ** - Private Services for Immediate Family will now be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Mitchell Funeral Home. Live Streaming of the service will begin at 1:55 pm through the Facebook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park so that all can attend virtually.
