John Montgomery White

Mr. John Montgomery White, 88, of Raleigh, NC passed away on February 8, 2019 at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh NC. John was born in Charlotte, NC to Allen and Bessie White on October 13, 1930. He spent most of his childhood in the Charlotte area before moving to Raleigh in the late 50’s. He worked at Dillon Supply Company in Raleigh, Dubose Steel in Roseboro, NC and later worked at County Tax Services, Inc in Raleigh before retiring. He moved to Raleigh in the early 1950’s where he met his wife of 57 yrs., Martha McClain. They were active & devoted servants at Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 50 yrs. John was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and participated in the church transition from the downtown location to the current location on Leesville Road. John’s love of nature and family was exceeded only by his love for God. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and good friend, but most of all he was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and tried to show it in everything he did. It was evident that the Lord used John’s faith to speak life changing words into other people’s lives even during his years of dementia. John loved God’s nature through his love of the mountains, love of wild life and enjoyed ocean fishing at the NC coasts. John’s love of nature extended to Powder Horn Mountain, near Boone, NC, which was one of his favorite places to be. He and Martha found this piece of heaven on earth in the mid 1970’s where he and his family spent a lot of time hiking, hunting wild flowers and enjoying Mother Nature’s wonders. He was pre-deceased by his wife & is survived by his 2 daughters-Regina W. Hale (Mark) and Tonia W. Price (Charlie). He also leaves two grandchildren Morgan Izatt & Marcus Hale. Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is a time for everything. And a season for every activity under the heavens” Services will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Road in Raleigh, NC on Wed, Feb 13, 2019. Visitation is at 1:30pm, celebration of life at 3:00pm. Burial will immediately follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. What an asset he and Martha were to TBC. I never saw John without a smile on his face and he would always remind me of a memory we share. He was always so quiet, getting things done around the church that no one knew John was responsible. While he has been sick for sometime, his memory lives on.
