Joe enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served until 1958. During his time in the Air Force, he completed his training in the NCO Leadership School and was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force , Joe pursued a degree in accounting at UCLA where he graduated with honors in 1961. He then joined the audit staff at the Los Angeles office of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell (now KPMG). In 1970, he was invited to join the firm as a Partner.
In 1972, Joe moved to New York City to assume a position in KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice. A few years later, he moved to the Office of General Counsel where he stayed until his retirement from KPMG in 1994.
He moved to North Carolina and began a successful career as an independent consultant. As a consultant, he traveled abroad extensively and truly enjoyed working internationally.
Joe is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janie J. DeMario, his children, Jeannette of Round Rock, TX and Thomas (Mary-Clare) of Fernandina Beach, FL , grandsons, Michael, Bradley, Matthew, Jeffrey, Kevin and Ryan and granddaughter, Natalie. Joe is also survived by two brothers, John (Amy) and Frank (Vickie) and his beloved dog, Maggie Lee. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret.
Joe never met a stranger and always left a friend. For all who loved him, our time with him was a wild and brilliant experience. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral will be private. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary’s St., Raleigh.
