Joshua Miles Lull was received in the loving arms of Jesus on April 19, 2026. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and public servant who lived 30 years with more purpose and fulfillment than many experience in a lifetime.
Josh was born in Raleigh to Catherine and Andrew Lull. A boy scout, avid outdoorsman, and lover of all sports. He naturally excelled at any sport he decided to play, and especially loved soccer and lacrosse. After graduating from Sanderson High School, he attended NC State University where his lifelong passion for the Wolfpack grew stronger. While in college, just shy of 19, Josh met Ann Marie and they were inseparable since. He obtained his degree in political science while serving as a Christian mentor to students at Millbrook High School through Younglife. Josh made lifelong friendships and eternal impacts to the Kingdom of God.
After college, Josh felt called to the front lines of emergency service. In 2017, he graduated from the 42nd Raleigh Fire Academy as the valedictorian. After serving at stations 3, 17, and 14, he found his ultimate dream job as a Senior Firefighter on the Rescue at Station 16. Whenever asked why he wasn't promoting up the ranks, his response was always “I have the best job in the entire city. I can be a bigger influence from the back of the truck without the title”. A true embodiment of who Josh was.
He was incredibly intelligent and a gifted instructor, teaching fire and rescue skills across North Carolina. Residents of Raleigh will never grasp how much safer they are thanks to his commitment to excellence and passion for training across the department. He leaves an impossible void on the NC Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 8 and Raleigh Technical Rescue Teams.
Josh married the love of his life, Ann Marie in 2019. They welcomed Jack in 2023 and Cynnie in 2025 who became the center of their universe. Above all, he was an incredible father and husband. Josh embraced his role with pure joy and was truly an “all in” dad. If he wasn’t at work, he was home managing the children and house while Ann Marie worked. He enjoyed finding time for house projects, being on the water, and staying active - even completing an Ironman race with his dad in 2023.
Josh will be remembered for his bright and charming smile, kind spirit, and unique ability to make others feel seen and valued. His legacy will live on through his profound impact on firefighters across the state and through his two precious, beautiful children.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Manning Lull; children, Jack Miles Lull and Cynthia Catherine Lull (Cynnie) of Washington, NC; his parents, Catherine and Andrew Lull of Raleigh; sister, Jordan Lull (Joshua Price) of Charlottesville, VA; grandmother, Betty Edwards of Raleigh; Manning family of Williamston, NC: Jason, Cynthia, Robert (Avery), and William (Sarah); aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him.
