Joyce Queen Rabb

August 15, 1930January 1, 2019

Joyce Queen Rabb, 88, of Lexington, NC peacefully passed away at Rex Hospital of Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. She was born in Cramerton, NC on August 15, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee Queen and Cleo Kitchings Queen. Joyce graduated from Wingate College. She was married to the late Billy R. Rabb. After Bill graduated from Davidson College, they lived in Charlotte, NC. His career led them to live in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Richmond and then Miami. The friends she made along this journey as well as relatives loved to visit Joyce while they lived in Miami to enjoy her hospitality – swimming in the pool, going to the beach and trips to the Parrot Jungle. They moved to Lexington in 1972.

Joyce worked for the Davidson County Tax Department for 32 years where she formed many friendships. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, NC.

Joyce was devoted to her family. She was a lively “Nanny” that loved planning fun activities for her grandson. Joyce spent many hours caring for others and will be remembered for her kindness and devotion to those in need. She was a wonderful gardener and cook. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Angie Dowd and her husband, Rick of Raleigh; her grandson, Bryant Dowd of Charlotte; and her sister, Rebecca A. Queen of Cramerton, NC.

Angie

Your mother was a lovely lady. I didn't get to see her much after she retired but truly loved working with her. I am now taking care of my mother who is 95 so will not be able to attend a funeral when you have one but please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. She was a very beautiful lady inside and outside.
