Kathryn Sessoms Thomas

Kathryn was born February 7, 1920 in Durham, NC to the late Murray Sessoms and Jessie Owen Young Sessoms. During WWII she was employed at the Pentegon as a general’s administrative assistant. She moved to Raleigh in 1943 and after raising her family she returned to work with the Wesley Foundation at North Carolina State University. Kathryn was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert William “Tommy” Thomas; and infant daughter, Martha Ann Thomas.

Kathryn is survived by a son, Robin Thomas and his wife Rachel of Raleigh; and a daughter, Joy Buckingham and her husband, Tom of Columbia, Maryland. Survivors also include three grandchildren, Stephanie Rainwater of Wake Forest; Kristin Stroup of Winter Garden, Florida; and Martha Hamilton of Washington, D.C.; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Monday, October 31, 2011 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.

The family thanks the staff of Abbotswood at Stonehenge for their loving care.
