With great sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of Linda Brannan Burton, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and dear friend. Linda passed away after a courageous and hard-fought battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her strength and grace in the face of such adversity will remain an enduring inspiration to all who knew her.
Born on September 6, 1956, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Linda was the youngest of three daughters born to William Edwin Brannan and LaRue Booker Brannan. She was the beloved sister of Paulette and the late Vickie, and shared a deep bond with her family that was rooted in love and support.
On January 16, 1976, at the young age of 18, Linda married her soulmate, Ray Thomas Burton, while he was serving in the United States Marine Corps. Together, they shared 50 beautiful years of marriage, built on commitment, love, and unshakable faith in one another.
Linda was blessed with two children, each a joy in her life. Her daughter, Linda Michelle Burton, was born on November 17, 1990, followed by her son, Michael Thomas Burton, on February 1, 1997. Linda embraced motherhood with a heart full of love and selfless devotion. Her family was the center of her world, and her nurturing presence was the glue that held them together.
Despite the pain and physical trials of Linda’s cancer, Linda remained brave, tender, and loving through it all, never letting her spirit be defined by illness. Her strength was a quiet but powerful force that uplifted those around her.
She is survived by her husband Ray, daughter Michelle, and son Michael, along with his wife Natalie. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Paulette (Dan) McLelland, niece Tracy (Paul) McLean, and nephew Matthew McLelland. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Vickie, whom she dearly missed.
Linda’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy not just of memories, but of strength, compassion, and enduring love.
"She faced the storm with grace, and in her quiet strength, she taught us all how to live and love more deeply."
The family will have a private memorial service in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
