October 31, 1950August 22, 2020

Lynn Hughes Tudor, 69 of Raleigh, NC passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 in her home. She courageously fought two different types of cancer for the last 23 years. She was born on October 31, 1950 in Cumberland, MD to the late Benjamin and Rebecca Hughes.

Lynn graduated from Beall High School in Frostburg, MD in 1968 and then graduated from Hood College and Frostburg State University with degrees in Chemistry and Physics. Lynn always had a great love for all animals and subsequently spent most of her life working with them. Lynn worked in small animal hospitals, in veterinary pharmaceutical sales as well as at the NCSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy L. Hughes of Frostburg, MD; her daughter, Rebecca Tudor Wheless and husband, Jeff Wheless, and their children Benjamin and Arden of Louisburg, NC; and her daughter, Jennifer Tudor Hakeman of Raeford, NC and her children Hadley and Michael.

Her family is very grateful all the doctors and staff at Duke Medical Center especially Dr. Joseph Moore and Dr. Thomas D’Amico without whose care she would not have had the years she had after her cancer diagnosis in 1997. We are also thankful for all her friends who helped her in her later years.

A memorial service is planned for Lynn at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Frostburg, Maryland at 1:00pm on September 26, 2020.

Dear Rebecca, Jennifer and family:
Lynn was amazing, strong, witty, and she taught me so much about navigating challenge with grace and faith too. I first met Lynn when she came to NC State, to fill in for me as I was getting ready to leave for maternity leave-and we remained friends for the next 20 years, sharing our love of music, sharing challenging life transitions, and more. She fought for so long, and yet we could always laugh about something in life. She will be missed greatly. Prayers to all during this time. Julie Nettifee

I am glad I had the opportunity to know Lynn and spend time with her these last months of her life. She loved animals and especially bull dogs. There was evidence of that love in and around her dwelling. She loved the College of Veterinary Medicine and her time spent there. She was so proud of her daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca. Love to you both and take care.

Remembering all the good times with Mom Mom and Poppy. We grew up like sisters and were forever friends. I love you, and will miss you always.

Lynn has been a friend since our days at Pullen Elementary. Remembering sleepover parties where we girls would tell our "secrets" (as if we could be trusted). When on one occasion we snuck out of her house on Uhl and roamed the snowy streets of Frostburg in the middle of the night.
Even as her health deteriorated she managed to attend our last Reunion.
Also sharing a funny, though semi terrifying, back road drive with her and Bonnie Radditz from Raleigh to Frostburg for another.
My condolences to the family and friends of this beautiful and courageous lady. I'm deeply sad and sorry that Lynn has passed. Prayers for peace and strength accompany this message.
