

M. Wayne Watson, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving night. A native of Lucama, he graduated from NC State University in 1964 with a B.S. degree in economics. Wayne was a member of the North Carolina National Guard for six years. In 1994, he retired as the purchasing agent for Dorothea Dix Hospital after 34 years of service. Wayne was a faithful, long-time member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and on several committees. As a member of the Raleigh Civitan Club, Wayne was honored as the 2014 Civitan of the Year.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Ellen Watson.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Kathy; son, Jeremy; two sisters: Marilyn and her husband, Freddy, of Chapel Hill, and Vicki and her husband, Roger, of Lucama; sister-in-law, Judi, and her husband Mitch of Wilmington; brother-in-law, Bob and his wife Sylvia of Youngsville; and nephews, Shane (Erin) of Chapel Hill and David (Amy) of Holly Ridge.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 1st in the Gathering Place at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm, before the celebration of Wayne's life will be held in the church sanctuary at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private.
