Dr. Manuel Cusipag Bulauitan passed away peacefully with family by his side at UNC Medical Center in North Carolina on July 30th 2022 at the age of 76.
He was born on December 24th 1945 in Tuguegarao, Philippines to Felipe & Crisanta. He graduated from Far Eastern University School of Medicine, Manila in 1970. He then moved to NY where he married his sweetheart, Ekaterini Spyridakis in 1975. The couple bought their first home together in Manhasset, NY.
Manuel began working for Mary Immaculate Hospital as a Trauma and General Surgeon. In addition, he established his own surgical practice in Jamaica Queens, NY. Soon after, the couple welcomed 3 children into their home and Manuel set about exposing them to everything life had to offer. His children remember him as a kind, patient & driven father who encouraged them to pursue their passions in life.
Dr Manuel C. Bulauitan was an accomplished Trauma Surgeon with a bedside manner that would lift the spirits and provide the willingness to overcome life threatening surgical illness. He was a generous individual who loved volunteering his surgical skills. Almost every year he would go back home to the Philippines and provide his expertise on surgical missions in rural areas as his way of giving back. When he wasn’t busy helping others, Manuel enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, traveling the world and entertaining family and friends. He was the life of every gathering with his vibrant smile and sense of humor. He truly lived a life full of joy. He was also an active and dedicated member of the Church of The Immaculate Conception in Queens, NY.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Ekaterini; his sons, Constantine (Danielle, wife), Philippe (Leah, wife) & Manuel (Tida, wife); his grandchildren, Sophia, Katerina, Eleni, Mattheus, and Baby Manuel; and his siblings, Arsenio (Rosita, wife), Angel (Julie, wife) and Sol. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sabina; and his brother- in- laws, Arnold and Nikolaos.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3rd at 10:00 am in Mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park. A separate Memorial Mass is being planned in New York at a later date.
