Marcia was born on March 18, 1946 in Winston Salem, NC, the first-born daughter of Blake Henry and Thelma Fearrington Henry. In 1948, Marcia became a big sister when Pamela was born. Marcia graduated from James A. Gray High School (Winston Salem) in 1964. She went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from Elon University in 1968, and then attended UNC Chapel Hill, where she earned her master’s degree in history. She began her teaching career at Louisburg College, where she met and fell in love with Bob McCredie. Bob and Marcia were married August 5, 1972. The pair welcomed their only daughter, Vanessa Lea, into the world on July 14, 1977. Marcia changed career course and became a technical writer, working in marketing for Memorex Telex for much of her career. She returned to her love of teaching, retiring as a high school English teacher in 2007. Retirement brought new excitement for Marcia, as she was able to spend much more time with her beloved granddaughter Chloe Isabelle, who was born in 2003.
Marcia had a great love of the written word; she was a voracious reader and amazing poet, she has left a legacy of intimate, eloquent poems that keep her voice alive for those who love her. She was also an amazing photographer; a passion she learned from her father, perfected with her young family, and taught to her yearbook students throughout her life. Marcia loved sharing good times and spontaneous laughter; when the music started, she was the first on the dance floor.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Robert J. McCredie, daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa McCredie Cline Fuchs and Nicholas Fuchs, granddaughter Chloe Isabelle Cline, and sister Pamela Henry Smith. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Brian, Ashlie, Shay, and Patrick.
We will memorialize and celebrate Marcia’s life on July 6, 2019 at Mitchell’s Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Ave in Raleigh, NC at 4 pm. Before her death, Marcia requested that any memorial contributions in her name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
