A Raleigh native, born May 30, 1932, she is survived by her devoted children, Basil, Harry, Anthony and his wife Lois, Anna and her husband Dave Buckey, her oldest sister Alyce and her husband Clare Karahalios, her grandchildren (George and Rhonda Charles, Mary and JP Edwards, Timmy, Tommy, Harmony and her husband Micah Moyle, Johnny and Catherine Vassilion, Christian, John, Lina and Joanna), her great grandchildren (Jaxton, Emilia, Evi, Ronnie, Charlotte, Antonio, Mikayla, Brionna, Giovanni, Amelia, Bryan, Anya, and Michael), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 56 years, Johnny B. Vassilion, her mother and father Helen and Harry Costa, her brothers and sisters George, Diamond, Johnny, Pauline, and twin brother Gus.
She was devoted to her faith as a Greek Orthodox Christian and lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Raleigh. Margaret was the co-owner of the well known Raleigh Landmark of 70’s, the North Hills Steakhouse and Tavern as well as several other local ethnic Greek restaurants. Margaret graduated from the historic Hugh Morson High School in 1950.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 17 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church from 6–8 pm with the Trisagion Prayer Service at 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 18 at 11am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox, 5000 Leadmine Rd. Raleigh, NC 27612.
She never knew a stranger and her home was always open to all. Her greatest accomplishment was her boundless love of family and faith. We thank you Margarita, Sis, Momma, Yiayia, Ayia, Nouva, and Thea March for making this side of the rainbow a truly wonderful world. May her memory be eternal.
