Marie Webel Feder, 95, passed away following a brief illness on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Born on October 16, 1926 in Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Henry Webel and Marie Dressler Webel and the wife of the late Henry “Hank” Karl Feder (2015).
Music was always a part of Marie’s life, whether through piano lessons as a child or taking in the latest movie musical. She was often chosen to play piano for assemblies during high school. Upon graduation, she received a scholarship to secretarial school and began working in Manhattan.
Marie met and married Hank Feder in 1949 after he returned from serving four years in the U.S. Army during WWII. They moved to New Jersey, where their only child, Evelyn, was born. A vacation to the Florida Keys changed everything for the young family. They fell in love with South Florida and moved there in 1958.
Other family members followed suit, providing childcare for Evelyn and enabling Marie to return to the workforce. Her careers in finance included work as a savings and loan officer, sales associate, and stockbroker. She earned her real estate license shortly before becoming a “half back” and moving to Raleigh to be near her daughter’s family.
Marie enjoyed the mild Florida winters and the ability to swim and visit beaches all year. She and Hank celebrated 66 years of marriage before he passed away in 2015. They particularly liked taking Caribbean cruises with friends and family members, going to the movies, and cooking. And no matter what the weather, Marie never missed an opportunity to relax with a cup of tea. Raised in the Lutheran faith, Marie shared that faith with her daughter and spent time each day reading a devotion.
She is lovingly remembered by her family: her daughter, Evelyn Feder Pizzolato, and son-in-law, Jack Pizzolato; her two cherished granddaughters, Sarah Pizzolato and Susan Norris; her grandson-in-law, Andrew Norris; her sister-in-law, Muriel Feder; and her niece, Ellen Viau.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers-in-law, and several aunts and uncles.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 10-11 AM at Mitchell Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service to begin at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Private inurnment at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum will follow.
Flowers are welcome; however, memorials may be made in her memory to Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
