On Saturday, August 11, 2018, Marie Katerina Gajda (nee Chyna), wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 77 years, after several years of battling cancer. Marie was born and lived in Chicago, Illinois for much of her life, and was able to, deservedly, retire “twice,” once in northern Arkansas with her husband Henry and again in Raleigh, North Carolina with her son and his family. Marie dearly loved her husband Henry throughout their 33 years of marriage, supported her son John in every way as she raised him, and was so grateful to have spent so much time with her daughter-in-law and her grandchildren Daniel and Emily as they grew up. Marie was a loved coworker at the many places she worked throughout her life, and was very proud to have done so while remaining so devoted to family.
Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law John and Kim her grandchildren Daniel and Emily, her nieces Kath (Jim) Camasto and Beth Chyna, and nephew Bob Chyna, her husband’s nieces Lorrie (Joe) Rybski, Denise Gajda, and Janine (Jim) Sledz, and other extended family and dear friends in Illinois, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Henry Gajda, father William Chyna, mother Mildred Chyna, and brother Bill Chyna.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Raleigh, North Carolina in the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at 11am on Friday, August 17,2018. Marie’s ashes will be interred along with her husband Henry’s at the columbarium at Saint Francis of Assisi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Marie may be made to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption (savinggracenc.org).
