I was in Mrs. Palmer's 5th grade class the day President Kennedy was murdered.  Mr. Smiley, our principal, came over the PA system to make the announcement and I remember Mrs. Palmer was at the board writing on it and she just flopped down in her chair like someone knocked the wind out of her and began to sob.  Some of us started to cry because she was such a pillar of strength and if this bad news was enough to bring this lady of strength to her knees, then we were scarred.  She tried to comfort us the best she could; but, the whole school was just at a loss.  I will always hold her in my heart because she taught us to be good people and do your best always. Marie was in the Pilot Club of Daytona Beach for a long time where I am still a member. I was also Governor of Florida Pilots in 1994-1995 and she attended my installation. I used Marie as my travel agent for many years. We enjoyed New York where we stayed at the Plaza with several friends and saw the Rockets Christmas Performance during that visit.  Marie was a great lady and helped and paid funds over to our club for using her as the travel agent which later when she went to the Port Orange club. After I retired from 40 years banking, I and my husband started our travel agency and we also give our club money from the trips that members use our agency to help the club. Marie has been a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators for 43 years.  I was honored to be her "sister" in the Florida Gamma Beta chapter.  For several years I brought Marie to our meetings as she was not driving at night.  I will always remeber Marie's sense of humor, and the joy she exhuberated.  Please accept my deepest sympathy.

She is survived by her two daughters Lynn Palmer Connally (Charles), Patti Palmer Malone (Sean), six granddaughters and twelve great grandchildren.
