

Marjorie F. M. Kachoris of Raleigh passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at the Hospice of Wake Co., following a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on January 4, 1947 in Raleigh NC to her parents David Dickinson Mason and Louise Pendleton Mason.
She graduated from Needham Broughton High in 1965 began her college education at UNC Greensboro and earned a degree in Medical Technology at Chapel Hill.
A forty year career in microbiology ensued; the majority at Massachusetts General Hospital (31 years), where she was recognized for helping discover and identify a new species of pathologic fungus.
She and her husband subsequently moved back to Raleigh, to take care of her aging mother and were employed by Duke University Hospital. Marjorie’s many talents included violin playing, cooking, loving her cat ‘Kalapki’ and celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and special occasions.
She is preceded in death by her brother Phillip Steven Mason and her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, John; her brother David P. Mason and his wife Phyllis; nephews David F. Mason and his wife Caroline, and their daughter, Ansley and son David Harrison, and Stephen Mason and his wife, Katie and their son, Benjamin. She also greatly appreciated many friends and neighbors in the Triangle area and Boston.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 24, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 25 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park, followed by the graveside service.
