Marjorie Newman Otstot

Margie was born January 29, 1938 in Danville, Virginia to the late Sidney Onyx Newman, Sr. and Marjorie Doyle Newman. She moved to Pensacola, Florida as a teenager where she met the love of her life, Roger Sherman Otstot. They were married June 16, 1956 in Pensacola and welcomed their first of five children in April 1957. In January 1963, the family moved Raleigh, North Carolina, where over the decades, the family expanded to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margie continued to reside in Raleigh until her death.

Margie was a kind and loving soul who was active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, routinely volunteering at school events, attending band concerts and sporting events, chaperoning field trips, and in general, just ensuring she was there whenever needed. She was also active in her church, sharing her love and faith with her fellow parishioners.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Otstot, her son John Otstot, and her daughter-in-law Alison Otstot. She is survived by her children: Charles Otstot (Suzanne), Kathy Abernethy, Ann Davis (Steve), and Bill Otstot; her brothers: Sidney Newman (Sandy) and Harry Newman (Ruth), twelve grandchildren and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, and six very special nieces and nephews and their families.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on December 6, 2024 at St. Paul’s Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh where Margie worshiped. A reception/visitation will follow the service. Burial was in Raleigh Memorial Park at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul’s Christian Church designated for the Outreach Endowment Fund, 3331 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612.
