Marjorie Windle Turner

All the reasons she’ll be so warmly received in eternity with her Lord and Savior are the very reasons she will be so deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Our family enjoys a strong sense of devotion to one another and we credit her with our closeness. She was truly the family matriarch.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Beulah Windle of Rocky Mount and beloved husband, William L Turner II. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter and son-in-law Ann and Ray Lichtner and son and daughter-in-law Bill and Linda Turner all of Raleigh. She also leaves behind her grandchildren and their families to whom she was a most bright light in their world, Hanna Compton and husband Jim, great grandchildren Sellars and Lindsay of Raleigh; Rachael Glauber and husband Jeremy, great grandchildren Christian and Ella of England; Steve Shuster and great grandaughter Blair of Raleigh; and Will Turner of Farmville VA.

She loved to reminisce about her childhood in Woodland, Ahoskie, and Rocky Mount, her college years at East Carolina Teachers College (ECTC), and her many memories as a young wife and mom. She was a long-time NC State supporter and fan and enjoyed telling stories of trips following the Wolfpack football and basketball teams. For many years, she enjoyed antiquing and playing bridge with her tight-knit group of neighbor friends.

She was a Southern lady who lived her life with charm, grace, good manners, and a sense of humor and style. She enjoyed a bowl of chocolate ice cream or grapefruit most evenings before bed. Watermelon rind pickles and hotdogs were favorites. Summer was her favorite season and the beach her second home. She enjoyed many years of memories at Pine Knoll Shores. Her Christmas Day brunches are a cherished family tradition that we will happily carry on. Psalm 100 was her favorite Bible verse.

She was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Raleigh Woman’s Club, NC State University Women’s Club, and Sir Walter Cabinet of North Carolina.

Her memory and physical health failed her recently, but now Marjorie has entered her new life – complete and well. Our family will miss her here immensely but we rejoice in the memories and gifts she has left us and in the promise of God that we will be reunited one day.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. James Parsons and the entire staff at Oaks of Mayview for their loving care, with a special offering of thanksgiving for caregivers and friends to our family Tammy Broyles and Linda High.

A service of worhip and celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Family will greet friends immediately afterwards in the Jane Bell Gathering Space behind the sanctuary. A private family burial will take place prior to the service.
