Martha "Scotty" Uzzell Jenkins

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Allen Jenkins Sr; sons, Leonard Allen Jenkins, Jr (Virginia Jenkins) and Stephen Connelly Jenkins, both of Raleigh, NC, and daughter, Elizabeth Scott Harrison Powers (Will Powers) of Cary, NC. She has seven grandchildren, Harrison (17), Shea (15), Carter (14), Madison (12), Sawyer (11), Kennedy (8), and Cooper (7). She is also survived by her sister, Marcia Ackley of Raleigh, as well as her nephew, Andrew and niece, Caroline.

Scotty is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Betty (Harrison) Uzzell. Her grandparents Ray R Harrison and Marice Connelly Harrison, along with Carter Uzzell and Gladys Andrews Uzzell. Scotty will also be reunited in heaven with one of her best friends, Sharon Desjardins.

Scotty attended Charles Owen High School in Black Mountain. In 1968 Scotty continued her studies at Saint Mary's Jr College in Raleigh. Eventually she went on to earn her degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in 1972. She worked in education for many years across the state and went on to be a legal assistant for a few large firms in Raleigh.

She loved animals and was active against animal cruelty. Scotty loved to get her nails and hair done and always looked like a million bucks. She loved her grandchildren and was an active advocate of her granddaughter's syndrome. Some of her family's fondest memories together and of her include big summer trips, quick trips to the beach and mountains, dancing to beach music in the living room, her love of Christmas music, and of course tailgating at NC State football games.

A memorial service will be held in Scotty’s honor on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Saint Michaels Episcopal Church (1520 Canterbury Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608) at 3pm. A reception will immediately the service.
