Martha was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles and Pauline Astern, and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. She met her husband, Mark Seidenstein, in Miami Beach, Florida while she was working for the USO and he was serving in the Navy. They had been married for 71 years. She worked for N.C. State University in the Entomology Dept. to put her husband through school. After he graduated, they moved to Virginia with their two children for four years before moving back to Raleigh. Martha worked with her husband to open the first IHOP in Raleigh on Hillsborough St. After retiring from the restaurant business in 1991, she and her husband opened a kitchen renovation business, Kitchen Facer/Klassic Kitchen, which they ran for several years before retiring for good.
Martha is survived by her husband, Mark, 94, son Jeff Seidenstein and daughter Sherry Grooms. Along with her Grandsons, Paul Blake, Justin Blake (Heather), and Ryan Blake (Rebecca) and four Great Grandchildren, Oliver, Heidi, Shira, and Carter.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Evelyn, Catherine, Elizabeth, Seymor, and Marvin.
The family received visitors at the home of Sherry Grooms on Tuesday June 17th, from 1pm-4pm.
Funeral Services were held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 18th, at 11:00 AM at 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh NC 27605, followed by a graveside ceremony at 12:30 PM at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery at 450 N. State St., Raleigh. The family received visitors afterwards at the home of Sherry Grooms.
