Marty Haran, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on December 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and a deep love for life's simple joys. He was known for his infectious smile, baby blue eyes, and love for his family and friends.
Born November 30, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio to Joseph and Bea Haran, Marty spent his childhood in Columbus before heading west to Houston, Texas. Columbus would eventually call him back to meet the love of his life, Michelle, in 1986. The two would go on to have two children, Cassie and Joel, and a 34-year marriage filled with unconditional love, support and lifetime of happy memories.
Marty developed an impressive skillset in both hardware and software engineering in the telecom industry ultimately leading to an opportunity to move the family to Raleigh, North Carolina. Marty spent the last 26 years dedicated to his craft at Oracle, making his mark both in his work and with lifelong colleague bonds.
Marty loved to be outdoors, preferably beachside with a cold Yuengling in hand, right next to his “shell”, walking the neighborhood pond with his beloved dogs, or playing a round of golf. Marty also loved to play billiards, volunteering with local organizations, and more than anything, Marty loved to be around his friends and family.
As a diehard Cleveland Browns fan, Marty’s Sundays were filled with cheers and “maybe next years”, as he cheered on his team with unwavering loyalty. His love for the Browns was matched only by his passion for sports and his ability to turn every game into a social event, gathering with family and friends to share in the highs and lows of the season.
Above all, Marty’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband, father and provider. His family was his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them; whether it was a beach trip to Myrtle, Sunday chicken wings at the house, cheering his kids on in all their sports activities or sneaking ice cream to the grandkids, these were his happiest times.
Marty's spirit will live on through the countless memories he leaves behind—his laughter, his love, and his enduring appreciation for life's simplest pleasures. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Marty is survived by his daughter Cassie West (Jake), and son Joel Haran (Caroline); Grandchildren Evelyn West, Abbie West, and Watson Haran; Brothers Michael Haran, Pat Haran (Lindsay) and Tim Haran (Jackie); and countless nieces, nephews and friends that are considered family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Michelle Haran, and parents Bea Haran and Joseph Haran.
The family would like to thank the Transitions Hospice Team, Senior Helpers of The Triangle, and the village of friends, neighbors, and family that supported Marty on this journey.
A funeral service for Marty will be held at St. Raphael The Archangel Catholic Church on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 9:30 AM with a committal service to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Following the burial, Marty's family would encourage you to join them in celebrating his life at The Mill.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage you to make a donation to one of Marty's preferred charities: The Raleigh Rescue Mission and the North Carolina Food Bank.
