Mary was the daughter of the late, Alton Boyd Spears and Catherine Cambpell Spears. She was born August 17, 1926, in Rex Hospital on Wade Ave. in Raleigh, but grew up in Lee County, NC.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Michael Christopher Briggs.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, E. Ray Briggs of Raleigh; son, Robert Christopher Briggs (Stephanie) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Lisa Briggs Crumpler (Rick) of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Robert Chris Briggs, Jr., Ashley Ann Briggs, Tyler Michael Crumpler (Mary Kensley Pleasant), and Camden Briggs Crumpler; and two great grandchildren, Callan Gray Crumpler and Leighton Catherine Crumpler.
A memorial service and entombment will be held in the chapel mausoleum at Oakwood Cemetery, date and time to be determined.
