OBITUARY

Mary Angela Jaluvka

April 9, 1928January 8, 2020

Mary Angela Jaluvka, 91, of Raleigh died Wednesday, January 8, 2020. Born in Pittsburgh to Lawrence and Lucy Chiccarello, Mary grew up with sisters Lucille and Dolores, worked, and briefly studied commercial art before marrying Pittsburgh native James Jaluvka. She lovingly nurtured her family of four surviving children and mourned the loss, in infancy, of son James Jr.

After moving to Raleigh in 1977, Mary worked for many years at the NC Department of State Treasurer and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Cathedral. Generous, hard-working, and perceptive, she placed others’ needs ahead of her own. Volunteer work at Duke Raleigh Hospital gave her joy, as did lasting friendships made with neighbors and at Preston Pointe Retirement Community. She most loved spending time with family. Her husband, Jim, passed away in 2000.

Mary is survived by her children, Lynn (Ron Ferrell), Jan, Jill (Danny Lowe), Gary (Debbie); her grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Hannah, and Emily; step-grandsons, Chris and Jonathan; great-grandson Monty; and the riot of flowers she planted wherever she lived.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 13 at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, with officiating performed by St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation will follow at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, in-memory donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.

Chick was one of those legendary moms. She loved her kids through thick and thin. She was a wonderful gardener, chef and nobody ever made a better pizzelle.
Probably the thing I’ll remember most was the twinkle in her eyes when she laughed and smiled. Her whole face lit up and you could feel the warmth radiate from her.
Chick was like a member of my family in so many ways and her spirit lives on through countless memories.
Love to Jan, Jill, Lynn and Gary-

Mrs. Jaluvka was one of the nicest, sweetest and most wonferful women that I have had the honor to have known. The entire Jaluvka family have warm hearts and souls instilled by 2 loving parents. My deepest most heart felt sympathy goes out to all of you. This spring I will plant flowers in my front yard in her honor.

A picture perfect obituary for a picture perfect lady we had the pleasure of knowing as our neighbor for many years in Monroeville Pa. We enjoyed , for many years the good fortune to have purchased our very first home next door to Mary , Jim , Gary, Jill , Jan and Lynn . Jim became my electronics advisor and Mary my gardening mentor . Our children grew up together . Let's not forget Toby. The day they moved to Raleigh was a sad one for us but how fortunate for the new neighbors they would have. Mary rests in peace and we have beautiful memories forever.

To Mary's children Lynn, Jan, Gary and my wife Jill.
Mary was one of the most warm, caring, generous and loving people
that I have ever known. She always welcomed me as a member of her family and every time I saw her she brightened my day and my life. I could not have had a better mother-in-law and her memory will always make me smile. You guys were truly blessed to have a mother like her.
