

The Reverend Meta L. T. Ellington was born on All Hallows Eve, 1945 in Reidsville, NC and died December 1st at the age of 80. She was a child of God and an inheritor of the Kingdom of Heaven, a wife and mother and lover of all God's creation.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Woollcott Ellington, Jr. and their children, William Wesley Ellington and Margaret Meador Ellington; her sisters, Karen Hewitt and Hazel Newcomb; as well as a niece and nephews; and Biscuit, her beloved poodle.
In addition to being an elementary school teacher (a graduate of UNC-G) and a potter for many years, Meta was ordained deacon in 1988 in the Episcopal church and served the Diocese of North Carolina in Pittsboro and Oxford and then in Raleigh at St. Timothy's, Good Shepherd, St. Michael's and as chaplain for St. Mary's School.
Meta lived life to the fullest in service to others with arms wide open. She was especially committed to service to the sick and dying in her role as minister. She volunteered with hospital emergency rooms, the Raleigh Police Department, children's Sunday school and pageants and was a docent at the NC Museum of Art. She ministered to all in need of comfort. Meta always led with patience, compassion and her signature creativity in all she did. She especially loved Topsail Beach, reading, singing and cooking unique and delicious meals in the kitchen.
Meta was preceded in death by her parents, The Reverend Richard W. Turkelson and Lillian M. Turkelson.
The funeral service will be at 11AM, December 12th at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Rd. Raleigh, NC. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church parish hall.
