Michael R. La Sasso was the son of second-generation Italians. A gifted athlete, he quashed his dreams of a baseball career to pursue a more practical vocation. There was a stint in the Air Force and a few years at the IRS before he successfully launched his own accounting firm, a business that lasted his lifetime.
A blind date set up by a friend evolved into a 63-year marriage. He and his wife raised 3 children, moved around the country to be near their children and grandchildren, and pursued adventures as they traveled the world. His love for family knew no bounds. He embraced the role of family patriarch in the very best sense of the word. He was the stabilizing force at the center of four generations.
He is survived by his wife, three children, five grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren as well as his beloved sister and brother-in-law.
He remained an avid Yankees fan throughout his life, loved to cook and bring people together through food, and was well known for his love of animals, especially the many dogs over the years who held a special place in his heart.
A source of both guidance and support, a man who pursued his own dreams and made it possible for others to create and follow theirs, he will be profoundly missed by all those who loved him and laughed with him. If the true measure of a man were to be judged by how fiercely he was loved, he would be a giant.
