

Michael B. May, 71, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Transitions LifeCare following a brief illness. Born on August 21, 1954, in Raleigh, Mike was the son of the late George Nelson May and Benetta Butner May.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He spent many years working in the retail industry, building a career in both drug stores and grocery stores. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet dedication, Mike took pride in everything he did.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, collecting and building model cars, caring for his yard, and keeping his cars in top condition. He found great satisfaction in simple pleasures and took pride in maintaining a beautiful home and yard. Above all else, Mike loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Clarkie Hinnant May, with whom he would have celebrated 38 years of marriage this August; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Mandy Vick; his grandsons, Andrew and Collin Vick; his brothers and their spouses, Andrew and Wendy May, Ralph and Audrey May, and George and Linda May; his brother, Jack May and Linda Stevens; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sue and Louis Smith, Leslie and Deens Kornegay, and James Dowd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Kay Dowd.
Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his generous heart, his loyalty, and the many ways he quietly cared for those around him. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 11:00 am at Asbury Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Family will receive friends following the service. (The church will be streaming the service - link to join is below within Service Box)
