Patricia Steele Mock, 79, passed away February 17, 2015 at WakeMed Raleigh. Born on March 27, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois; she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Gertrude Steele and wife of the late George Francis Mock.
Pat grew up in Norfolk, VA, graduating from Granby High School in 1953 where she met her husband to be, George. She attended Old Dominion University until they moved to Raleigh for George to complete his degree at NC State University.
Pat was known to be fiercely independent. Following the death of her husband in 1975, she raised her three young children and retired as the Administrative Assistant to the President of GE Capital Mortgage Insurance Company many years later.
She was a parishioner of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and a member for more than forty years of North Ridge Country Club where her husband was a founding member. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed playing bridge and challenging her grandsons to a game of gin rummy. She was a vocal supporter at her grandsons’ sporting events.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter: Charlotte Griffin and husband Rob, of Raleigh; sons: George Mock and wife Andrea, of Coto de Caza, CA; and Chris Mock and wife Cinda, of Ashburn, VA; her grandchildren: Zack, Davis, and Sam Griffin; Morgan and Olivia Mock; and Logan, Holt, Arielle, and Lexi Mock; and her niece, Martha and partner Kit of Belen, NM.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Charlie, her dogs Max and “grand dog” Maddie.
The family wishes to thank Pat’s neighbors for watching out for her, and the doctors and nurses of WakeMed Raleigh, especially the nurses of the Cardiac ICU department, for their skilled and gentle care and compassion.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 12 Noon until 1 PM at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church (5801 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh), with a Funeral Mass to be held at 1 PM in the chapel. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army of Wake County (www.salvationarmycarolinas.org) or the SPCA of Wake County (www.spcawake.org) in Patricia’s memory.
