Patricia "Tricia" Thomas Whittington

Patricia Thomas Whittington, age 73, died peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare with her daughter by her side. She entered this world on November 25, 1950, in Durham, NC born to Charles and Mary Thomas.

Tricia lived in several places throughout her life: Cary, NC, Raleigh, NC, Wrightsville Beach, NC, North Myrtle Beach, SC before eventually returning to Wilmington, NC to be closer to her daughter. Tricia had a loving heart. She was always willing to help others. Family was important to her and she loved each and every one of them deeply. She was known for her “full of life” personality. Tricia loved to dance and enjoyed shagging with her husband, Phil and friends.

Tricia, known as Mimi, enjoyed supporting her grandchildren by attending dance competitions for Taylor Chase and sporting events for Walker. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She loved them and EVERYONE knew it! Tricia always shared a quote with daughter, “Love as though you’ve never been hurt, sing as though no one can hear you and live as though heaven is on earth”. Tricia loved BIG and lived her life to the fullest! Tricia’s daughter, Jenny, has requested that guests wear vibrant colors to her service in honor of her Momma.

Tricia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Tyson Whittington Jr., her sister, Pamela Rouse, and her sister in love, Marsha Thomas. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-love, Jenny and Jay Dixon; grandchildren, Taylor Chase and Walker Dixon; loyal “fur baby” companion, “Cruz”; sisters, Gail Stephenson, Marilyn Woodall (Bryant); brothers, Chuck Thomas, Danny Thomas (Cindy) brother in love, Richard Rouse; aunts, Annette Godwin and Merle Thomas. Tricia was known as the “FUN” Aunt to her 12 nieces and nephews. Tricia leaves behind numerous friends who became family over the years. Lots of memories have been etched into our hearts and she will always be with us.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Tricia at Mid-Way Baptist Church, 6910 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh, NC 27603 beginning at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 21, 2024. There will be a Visitation immediately following the Service in the Sanctuary.
