Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geraldine Foster Johnson; son, Paul Wayne of Wake Forest; daughter, Sandra Johnson Plyler (Chip) of St. Simons Island, Georgia; granddaughter Melissa Plyler Covert (Johnny) of Decatur, Georgia.
Born in Aiken County, SC on September 29, 1932, he grew up in Columbia SC. After serving his country in the United States Navy, he continued his education at the University of S.C., graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Paul began his career at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL as a representative to NASA on the space project. He received IBM’s Outstanding Contribution Award for his work on the Moon Landing Module. After retiring from IBM where he worked in both the US and Europe, he taught at Wake Community College for a number of years.
Paul had a deep faith in God and will be remembered for his service to others at Hayes Barton Baptist Church where he was a member for 48 years.
