

Paul V. Kretzschmar, Jr., 83, passed away unexpectedly on July 11, 2011. Born on December 14, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY; he was the son of the late Paul and Elizabeth Kretzschmar and brother of the late Elizabeth Lombardo.
He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII as an Aviation Crewman and held a private pilot license. A believer in education, Paul received his Ph.D. in Education and retired as Administrator of the Dade County School System in Miami, Florida. He was an avid reader, a collector of tools for his many handyman projects and active in politics, running for the School Board and holding a position on the City Council in Lauderhill, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Burleigh-Kretzschmar, of Raleigh; children, Richard Kretzschmar, of Coconut Creek, FL, Robert Kretzschmar and wife Terri, of St. Augustine, FL, Paul Kretzschmar, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Patricia Ely and husband Mark, of Cookeville, TN, and Mark, Matthew, & Patrick Kretzschmar, all of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Michelle Chase, of Las Vegas, NV, Jennifer Kretzschmar, of Hollywood, FL, and Mark, Nicole, Jesse, Dylan, & Trisha Ely, of Cookeville, TN; brother, William Kretzschmar and wife Janet, of Cary, NC; and brother-in-law, John Burleigh, of Palm Springs, CA.
Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11 AM at the Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Military Honors to follow graveside.
