Paul Alexander Read

Paul Alexander Read, aged 77, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on June 29, 2025, at home in Raleigh, NC. Born September 2 1947, in Johnstown, PA. He was the son of the late Thomas Philip Read and Mary Gerard McGee Read.

Paul leaves behind his devoted wife of over 52 years, Janice Read, and their beloved daughter, Shelley Curran (Joel) and son, Steven Read (Shannon). He was a proud and loving Grandpa to Mackenzie, Savannah, Sawyer and Sullivan.

Paul was predeceased by his sister Mary Kay Frye, and brothers Tom, Bob, and Ron Read. He is survived by his brothers Bill and Phil Read, and sisters, Emily Sullivan, Donna Sambol and Leora Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul graduated from Cameron County High School in Pennsylvania. He worked at Eastern Airlines for nearly 25 years. The Eastern Airlines and Calvary Baptist Church families have been a special part of Paul and Jan’s lives. One of their favorite Calvary activities was serving the community through the church’s Pantry. He was an avid coin collector and had a passion for vintage cars. If you had a conversation with Paul you probably heard about his prized possession, a 1930 Model A Deluxe Roadster.

A funeral service for Paul will be held Sunday, July 6, 2025 starting at 1:30pm at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612. Immediately following the funeral a reception/visitation will be held. A graveside service for anyone that wishes to attend will occur at 3:00pm at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
