Peggy Flora Dewar, 77 passed away at home, surrounded by family in Raleigh on June 29th, 2026 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Peggy was raised in the Savannah, GA area and then later settled in La Grange, NC. There in La Grange she met her lifelong love, Lynn Dewar, with whom she was married, started a family, and eventually settled in Raleigh, NC.
During her forty years in Raleigh, she was never far from her roots, Peggy returned to La Grange numerous times each year to celebrate holidays, birthdays, or to simply enjoy family at her mother and father’s house over some truly epic southern cooking. Peggy’s relationship with her mother was extremely close, and her connection to her brother Freddy could be characterized as a lifelong mutual adoration, filled with constant teasing and joking.
It was undoubtedly these close family relationships built on love with a huge dose of humor, that shaped Peggy into the sweet, good-natured woman (with an infectious smile) that she remained her entire life. She took deep pride in caring for her husband and sons, building family traditions (her amazing annual Christmas party), being an unparalleled homemaker, while at the same time working jobs ranging from running a home daycare, to operating a wallpaper-hanging business, to working for years for Engstrom and King Orthodontics.
Peggy’s life was full, not only including family trips to La Grange, or to her brother’s cabin in Lenoir, but also many summers at the beach, yearly vacations with Lynn to Charleston, SC, and decades of Friday night dinners with a tight-knit group of friends. It has been said by many people that her high-pitched, truly genuine laugh was recognizable in any crowd, and most certainly came from a place of absolute joy. Those that knew her best knew that this joy was ultimately a result of a deep faith in Christ. Her faith, and the joy she shared served as the foundation of the life she lived and family she and Lynn built together.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Mollie Walston Flora, father, Fred L. Flora, Sr., and brother, Fred L. Flora, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Lynn, son Jeff of Merrimack, NH and his three sons Anson, Luke, and Rhys, son Jason and his wife Marion of Raleigh, and their three sons Sam, Josh, and Drew, along with five nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh.
