Penny Ann Strickland Poston passed away on June 19, 2015. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece and friend. Penny was born May 18, 1973, in Aberdeen, Maryland to Daniel and Sherry Strickland. The family moved to South Carolina when Penny was a baby. She graduated from Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1991. She then attended and graduated from Horry Georgetown Technical College with a degree as an x-ray technician. Additionally, Penny graduated from the Bryman School in Phoenix, Arizona and was a certified medical assistant (AAMA). Penny worked in the medical field in South Carolina and Arizona as much as her health allowed over the years. She had a genuine love for her profession and a true empathy for all people in need.
In her lifetime Penny received three kidney transplants from organ donors. These gifts of life extended the years we had with her and we will be forever grateful to the individuals and their families who gave these precious gifts.
Penny’s family includes her mother, Sherry Sterling, and her sister, Donna Oney (Jeff), all of Raleigh. Her uncles, David Santimaw (Irene) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Sherwood Santimaw (Marlene) of Antioch, California. An aunt, Nanette Cantor (Jim) of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Additionally, her cousins Lara Opsal, Dave Santimaw Jr, Joe Santimaw, and Davina Roberge. Penny’s best friend, Denise Prothro (James and Kayden), of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as well as her dear friend, Judy Rosengarten, of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Our hearts are broken, but it was time for Penny to fly free. We know right now she is swimming with the dolphins! We will miss her and love her always.
A graveside service for Penny will be held on Monday, June 22, at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, at noon. Please go to the mausoleum located at the very back of the cemetery. Dress is casual. Please join us afterward for a gathering of family and friends to immediately follow at the home of Donna and Jeff Oney. Directions will be provided from the cemetery.
Penny loved all animals. In honor of Penny, please be kind to an animal today. Penny will be laid to rest with the ashes of her best furry pal, Rusty Poston, with her all the way.
