Pi -Yu Huang

Dr. Pi-Yu Huang passed away the afternoon of May 1, 2021 in Durham, NC. She was 82 years old. She was born on January 31, 1939 in Zhuolan, Miaoli, an agricultural village in central Taiwan to Dr. Chi-Ching Lin and Fen-Ju Lin.
Pi-Yu earned a bachelor’s degree from the National Chung-Hsing University. She came to the United States in 1967 to pursue graduate studies and earned her Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Missouri.
She married Jeng-Sheng Huang on September 6, 1967 in Columbia, Missouri. Pi-Yu worked at North Carolina State University as a researcher in the Department of Plant Pathology. Her professional expertise was in the use of electron microscopes to investigate plant-pathogen interactions. Her research has been published in several scientific journals. Pi-Yu was very passionate about researching plants that benefit from pathogenic infections, such as huitlacoche, water bamboo shoots, potted poinsettia, and variegated tulips. She also published many articles about medicinal plants in the World Journal.
Pi-Yu is survived by her husband, daughter Jennifer Huang and husband Nhan Nguyen, son Robert Huang and wife Leslie Cameron.
A private service will be held for the family.
