So sorry to hear about my classmate.  My condolences to the family. I've known Preston & Matthew since elementary school & his mom knew my mom. Two yrs. ago, I'll never forget how he helped me when I showed him a picture of the mailboxes where I live- all were badly damaged, pieces of mail all over the ground, he was really upset & let me know that he would have them replaced, I asked him how was he going to do that ? He told me he worked at the post office & was in charge of retail. The new mailboxes were installed about a month later... beautiful.  When I look at those mailboxes, I know I will think about him too.  RIP Preston, you will be missed

Preston's loss comes as an absolute shock to us.  After standing in a long line at the post office, he was the bright light at the end of the wait.  We would often let others in line pass us, so we could be charmed by Preston.  He and I talked cars. He teased me about getting rid of my vintage Italian cars and  get something that would actually run.  His big heart was reflected in his large smile.  He will be greatly missed and the World has lost a hero.  Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Preston your presence is missed daily at the PO. We miss your laugh, your jokes, your upbeat attitude, your morning announcements about time, weather, and news updates. You were such a character. I still wait to hear, "Good morning Angel, what you think about this?" There is so much I could say after 19 years of working together, but I truly want to say thank you for your friendship, honesty, dedication, and spontaneous Personality. I went to Wrenn Dr for the first time since I heard of your passing it was difficult, especially when I think I was only able to give you  a  little wave when I saw you last. Such a huge loss.
Your smile was so dazzling, and your personality so large ,and packed with passion, but also  just enough snark to make a person feel good because it showed that you cared about them  I will  always remember you, for so many of the reasons that others have shared.

This was an after every training ritual. No matter how tired, wet, or nasty you were Preston insisted on recording the memory of all of us together. Now I am so thankful we took all these group selfies.

Preston meant so much to all of us. He was a friend, hype man, coach, cheerleader, comic relief, training partner, daily reminder to get off your butt and do something, and so much more.

Apostle Preston Mitchell came into my life and into the life of my church in 2009 through Prophetess Gibson (now Apostle Gibson). He was a man of God full of knowledge, spiritual power, and the heart of God. His strong leadership helped to shape me into the leader I am today and his love, laughter and friendship helped to keep me balanced and encouraged. The body of Christ lost a giant but his legacy on earth influenced so many and I rejoice in the certainty he rests with our Savior and King. He always said, “It’s a beautiful day to be in the Kingdom.” It surely is. Love and prayers, Bishop Debra Garner and the Purpose Destination Ministries family.

Well, my friend, it is with deep sorrow that I bid you farewell. I will forever cherish the smiles and laughter that you gave so generously. Though you are no longer with us in body, your joyous spirit with remain with us always.

I want to express my condolences to the Mitchell family. I lost my brother, Preston, who I have known since I was 15 years old. He, his brother Matthew, and I joined the Army together after graduating from Seventy-First High School. Our bond grew even stronger after we lost our brother Matthew, and we made it a priority to check in with each other monthly to see how our families were doing.

Preston was a unique and funny character, and I loved him for that. He will be genuinely missed.

Our  family moved to Cary in the early-2000s.  We visited the Post Office on Wrenn Drive and met the  most welcoming person behind the counter - Preston Mitchell.  Throughout these many years - he always gave a friendly smile, even when they were so busy. We actually live closer to another Cary Post Office Location but would go to Wrenn Drive just to see Preston. 
He will be missed by many I am sure. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I meet Preston and his family many years ago through a friend from my church. The Post Office in Cary was my place to go. Our heartfelt condolences to Preston’s family and friends.  We are a group of bike riders that meet regularly at the NCMA parking lot for rides on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. We often would see Preston and catch up on his Iron Man training. Seems he was always training for the next one on his agenda. He joined us on a couple rides. 
Although we did not know him well, we were glad to have made his acquaintance.

I spent some time on assignments at Cary PO around 2017-2018. If you were in that office even as a visitor, you were going to meet Preston one way or another.  He was a class act with a big personality. I'm not at all surprised to see him referred to as "Apostle," that explains a lot. This hits hard even for someone who barely knew him. I can only imagine the loss to those who were close to him. My sincere condolences to the family and to all of his nearest and dearest.

I met Preston in 2013 when I was hired at Cary PO. He was also my trainer and mentor as a "window clerk" during my time there.  Working beside him was such a privilege being that I learned so much from him.  He displayed outstanding customer service! He never met a stranger! He had all the care in the world! Preston was like a father to me. He guided me from day one. I miss him dearly. He left a huge impression in so mamy lives and I'm so grateful to have known him. Such a powerful person. Oak Island  Triathlon 6/10/17. Dileep proposed to me the night before and surprised me with doing his first triathlon in a very, very long time. Preston had called me that night and he was the very first person we told that we were engaged. Preston was doing the race too, and said a little  prayer for Dileep  to get out of the water safely.  We all did well that day.  This memory will always stand out for us.

Preston, your smile and energy were truly one of a kind, always so vibrant and contagious. You had this incredible way of lighting up any room you walked into, and your presence was a gift to everyone around you. I’ll always cherish the times we trained together, shared laughs, and encouraged each other.

I met Apostle Mitchell probably 15 years ago. My wife and I were in ministry and we were going through some transition and he became like a big brother to me. Whenever he was in Charlotte, he would call me and I would go to services with him. I loved the way he taught God’s word and I really looked up to him. Years later I started doing triathlons and once again, he mentored me. He drove all the way from Raleigh to Charlotte to join me on training rides and to see how I was progressing. I loved him like a big brother I begin to express how much I’ll miss him.   Our prayers are with his family and we can’t imagine how much you all miss him.

Preston was an extraordinary man. I had the pleasure of making his acquaintance through training for the post office. He was an exceptional instructor and his continued guidance helped further my career within the postal service. We stayed in contact and he continued to be a beacon of light in my life.
