

Ramzy Yousef Gurgis, 91, passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday morning, February 15, 2022. Born on December 4, 1930 in Cairo, Egypt, he was the son of the late Yousef Gurgis Yousef and Asma El-Shiek Yousef.
As the youngest of seven, he was well cared for by his brother and five sisters. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Cairo University in Agricultural Engineering in 1954. He started out as a High School Botany Teacher before working for the Department of Agriculture in tobacco research. He, his wife and two very young children received the blessing of the Pope of Egypt, ANBA Kerolis VI, and left everything to start a new life in America in 1968. They settled in Raleigh, NC which became their new home. He went back to school and received his Master’s Degree from North Carolina State University in Crop Science. He went on to become an Agronomist for the Federal Government for 28 years. He retired in 1997 and he and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling the world and marveling at God’s many wonders.
Ramzy was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was respected and loved by the church and the community.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Samira Bishara Gurgis, his children, Ashraf Ramzy Gurgis and Samar Ramzy Ellison and his grandchildren, Charles Matthew Langley, Anna Elise Langley, Ashton Mickael Gurgis and Austin James Gurgis.
He was preceded in death by both parents and all siblings.
A Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 12 Noon at the St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church, with interment following at Raleigh Memorial Park. The service was live streamed for those unable to attend and a hyperlink to the recording can be found below under DONATIONS.
