Raymond Foust Jr.

Raymond was born the eldest child of the late Raymond Foust, Sr. and Mamie Foust. He was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and also spent time in Stoney Creek, Virginia. Raymond was educated in the School District of Philadelphia, from which he graduated. He was active in his community and was never shy about lending his time, talents, and experience to friends by offering household repairs, providing rides, and sharing his sage advice.

Raymond worked for the United States Government as a printer with the Department of the Navy Defense Printing Service for more than 35 years. He was also an accomplished entrepreneur, creating multiple businesses to fulfill unmet needs within his community. He was respected for his multifaceted skills, strong work ethic, and unwavering dedication to uplifting those around him.

Raymond was called to serve his country and proudly became a member of the United States Army, serving from 1960 to 1963. His unwavering dedication and bravery were recognized through numerous awards and commendations.

Raymond's proudest role was that of a father to his children. As they grew into adulthood, he remained a constant source of guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love. He celebrated their successes, comforted them through challenges, and always reminded them of their worth. His advice was often simple yet profound and was always rooted in his unwavering love for the Lord. Ray enjoyed music and traveling, often initiating long drives to visit family, take vacations, or simply ensure that his children experienced new places and broadened their horizons.

In 1995, Raymond married Gloria Bailey, and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Although he had retired from the federal government, Raymond was never one to remain still for long. He embarked on new careers as a driver and later as a correctional officer, continuing to work well into his late seventies.

Raymond was a devoted member of Chris Temple of the Apostolic Faith in Garner, North Carolina, where he faithfully worshipped for more than 25 years. Even when his health no longer allowed regular attendance in his later years, Ray continued participating in weekly Monday evening prayer services. From 2021 through June 2026, Raymond enjoyed spending time at the Adult Senior Life Center, where he met a host of friends and caring staff who enriched his life.

In addition to his beloved wife, Gloria Bailey Foust, Ray leaves to cherish his memory his son, Dr. Raymond Foust III (Elizabeth) of Bronx, New York; his daughters, Robin Foust of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and Dr. Malissa Bailey of Durham, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Maliah Corryn Bailey Carr of Durham, North Carolina, and Raymond-Christopher Foust and Ellah Foust of Bronx, New York; several beloved nieces and nephews; treasured cousins; precious friends; his supportive church family; and countless community members with whom he formed lasting bonds. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gilbert Foust.

Raymond loved working with youth, creating art, and spending time with family and friends. He lived life with passion, purpose, and generosity. He had a particular fondness for sweets and coffee. A hardworking and selfless man, Raymond never hesitated to place the needs of others before his own and was always committed to uplifting the community he served. His life was well lived, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of all whose lives he touched. His memory will be cherished forever.

Visitation was held at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612, US, on July 31, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Repast immediately followed the Funeral Service.

The service of committal, with military honors, occurred at 2:00pm at Raleigh Memorial Park immediately following the repast.
