

Reba Jones Rowland, 83, passed away on July 20, 2019 at UNC Rex Hospital following a brief illness. Born at home in Rose Hill, NC on December 8, 1935; the youngest of four, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Jones and Idella Mae Johnson Jones and wife of the late Bennett A. Rowland, Sr.
Reba graduated from Rose Hill High School, where she played on the championship girls basketball team 1952/1953. After High School she went to Nursing school at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, NC, where she completed her RN.
After a few years working in Duplin County as a nurse, she achieved her Certification of CRNA (Certified Register Nurse Anthesetist) in Philadelphia, PA. She had a productive and long-standing career at Rex Hospital, retiring in 2005 after over 40 years of service to her community. She made many lasting friendships with her co-workers over the years.
She married Bennett A. Rowland in 1967. Reba was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed playing the piano, supporting NC State Basketball – Go Pack!, …
She is lovingly remembered by her son: Bennett A. Rowland, Jr., of Youngsville; and by her many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by her siblings: Leola English, Elizabeth Raynor and late husband Connie and George Washington “G.W.” Jones and late wife Thelma Jones – “their adopted third sister”.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 27th from 10-11 am at the Mausoleum of Raleigh Memorial Park, with a Memorial Service to begin at 11 am in the Mausoleum Chapel.
