Rena was a member of North Ridge Alliance Church. She faithfully attended and served in First Alliance Church of Raleigh for nearly sixty years. Rena was defined by her deep and abiding faith in Christ which she readily displayed to others by the way she lived her life.
She is survived by her five children: Clifford Junior and wife Barbara of Clayton, Keith and wife Alice of Raleigh, Bruce and wife Kathy of Durham, Mark and wife Pam of Winston Salem and Karen Holtz and husband Tom of Roanoke, Virginia. She loved her family and prayed fervently for her fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, nine great, great grandchildren as well as her many faithful friends.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Baptist State Convention retiring at age 70. In her retirement she volunteered in numerous capacities when she was able as she loved helping and serving others. As one who suffered many years with severe restless leg syndrome, the Restless Leg Syndrome Foundation held particular significance to her as she participated in its formation in its early years.
Even as she grew increasingly blind and deaf, she modeled unconditional love and encouragement to those who were hurting, grace in adversity, and faithfulness to her Savior. In her last year, she asked God every day to reveal His purpose for keeping her on earth, and He did in a remarkable way. Until her last days, she ministered to her friends and family with loving concern demonstrated in part by exhorting others to seek forgiveness for old hurts. She was a special gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her and her ever practical nature, good sense and Godly example of steadfast faith and wisdom will be sorely missed.
The family wishes to thank all who assisted in caring for her in her final months including Alice Stewart, Tonya Lewis, Chrystine Muturi, Sharon Massenburg and Lisa Ginsberg as well as the wonderful people at Independence Village.
A celebration of her home going will be held at North Ridge Church, 7601 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh 27615 at one o’clock May 14th, 2012, with family to receive following.
Those wishing to honor her memory may do so by making a contribution to North Ridge Alliance Church Great Commission Missions Fund; Restless Leg Foundation, 1610 14th St. NW, Rochester, MN 55901 or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Cir., Raleigh, NC 27607.
