Richard Albert Coley, Jr., of Raleigh went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was the son of the late Richard Albert Coley and Ethel Britt Coley. He was born on January 29, 1925, in Raleigh, NC. Following his graduation from Hugh Morson High School, he worked for forty years for Seaboard Railroad, later CSX.
Albert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and extended family and especially loved being outside in God’s creation. He was a faithful member at Tabernacle Baptist Church and later at Crabtree Valley Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife of almost 61 years, Sara Yates Coley, his brothers and sisters, and his grandson Matthew Coley.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Kenneth Scott Coley and Kathleen Crowley Coley of Wake Forest, and David Craig Coley and Kenna Peters Coley of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Diana Coley Jones (Erik), Scott McGee Coley (Melissa), Rebecca Yates Coley (Ryan Miller), Sarah Elizabeth Plowman (Benjamin), Caitlin Coley Ayscue (Brandon); great grandchildren, Mary Kenna Coley, Cameron Jones, Athalia Jones, and Coley Ayscue, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 9th, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street. A family burial service officiated by Dr. Charles Harvey will follow on Saturday, March 10th, in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
