Richard "Rick" Cornetti

January 8, 1953June 8, 2019

Richard William Joseph “Rick” Cornetti, 66, died unexpectedly Saturday night, June 8th at Duke Raleigh Hospital, where he was being treated for pneumonia.

Rick was born in Honolulu on January 8, 1953 to Peggy Moir Cornetti (Vollmann) and Robert A. “Bob” Cornetti. He was a graduate of Copenhagen International School in Denmark and N.C. State University. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he was an instructor at Burlington Nuclear Labs at NCSU and until four days before his death was a senior product manager at Spirent Communications.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda, his son Isaac (Erin), daughters Melissa and Mary (Mitchell Maynard), all of Raleigh; his grandchildren Henry, Quinn, Mattie, and Max Cornetti and Julian and Myles Jacobs; sisters, Christine Worstell of Missouri and Susanne Zola of Hawaii, 11 nieces and nephews, his extended Baker family, special neighbors, his scruffy little dog Moki and his precious kitty Opal.

Rick was a kind, sweet gentleman who enthusiastically embraced Southern culture—especially food. He was a meticulous hard worker who loved history, good books, real newspapers, gardening, Delta blues, antiquing, and helping his grandson’s Cub Scout troop. His love for the grandbabies, and their love for Popi, was the ultimate blessing of his too-short life.

The family will celebrate Rick’s precious life on Saturday, June 15th, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Taverna Agora, 326 Hillsborough St., in downtown Raleigh. (Casual Clothing or Aloha Shirts are encouraged)

A generous supporter of progressive and humanitarian causes, Rick would be honored by donations to Planned Parenthood or Boy Scouts of America.

My deepest condolences to the entire Cornetti family at this difficult time. I may know Rick longer than most people here at Spirent, ever since the day he first joined SPT! Rick was a true gentleman at heart and a great colleague I enjoyed working with. Thanks Rick for being my friend and I will miss you terribly!

My thoughts and prayers are with Rick's family during this very difficult time. I have worked with Rick for 10+ years and while we never had the chance to meet face to face he was always my go to person when I needed guidance or had questions. His kind heart and gentle nature always made him easy to talk to and I am richer for our conversations and for knowing him . I will miss him terribly. Rest in peace my dear friend.

My Dearest Cornetti Family
I am so sad about Rick. He was such a father figure to me growing up. I know Melissa and I gave him a run for his money many times and there he was, the kind, gentle soul to give us the hard-nosed speech, forgive us and lead us in the right direction. I am forever grateful for all the things he did for me growing up. He will truly be missed by many, especially me. He was such a good man, father, provider, and friend. I have always admired him for being such a genuine person. Hugs and love to you all!
